Enshin Karate
Enshin Karate is a practical system of empty-handed self-defense based on a strategy of circular movement allowing you to use your opponent’s power and momentum against him or her. This strategy, called Sabaki, enables its practitioner to convert defense into offense. Enshin stresses the development of flexibility,
power, and speed, with emphasis on stretching, conditioning, and
technique. Training in
Enshin Karate builds spiritual awareness, mental alertness, a sense of
confidence, and provides resources for meeting the challenges
encountered in life. Sabaki MethodEnshin Karate is based on a system of self-defense
called Sabaki, which uses circular movement to place you in the blind
spot of your attacker. This
will also minimize the impact of the attack.
Using this blind spot positioning allows you to use your
opponents power and momentum against them.
The Sabaki method, as practiced in Enshin Karate, was developed
by Kancho Joko Ninomiya. Enshin
karate has become one of the fastest growing forms of self-defense in
the world because men and women and children find the training fun and
challenging. Enshin TrainingEvery class in Enshin Karate begins with warm-ups
and stretching, followed by a routine of basic kicks, punches, and
blocks. These basics are
important to the veteran and novice alike.
For the duration of the class, these basic techniques are used in
various combinations with arm guards, partners, katas, and Sabaki
training. The only
competition in an Enshin dojo is within the student, to be the best he
or she can be. There are
scheduled (optional) controlled sparring sessions, which all students
are invited to attend. An
Enshin Karate dojo is dedicated to the traditional values of courtesy,
respect, and challenge as a way to develop and improve oneself. Kancho Joko NinomiyaEnshin karate was developed by Kancho Joko Ninomiya, winner of
the 1978 All-Japan Karate Championship and Director of the Sabaki Challenge. In an effort to
bring authentic fighting karate to the United States, Ninomiya
established the Sabaki Challenge, which has become this country’s
premier karate tournament. Because he felt that his training for the All-Japan helped
him grow stronger both physically and mentally, Ninomiya wants to offer
this opportunity to other young martial artists.
Today Kancho Ninomiya is the Master of Enshin Karate and its
growing network of schools throughout the United States and the world. He feels a strong personal commitment to maintaining a close
organization and offering his logical, practical system of karate to
anyone who is interested in what it has to offer. Sensei Andrew BuddSensei Andrew Budd is the Texas Branch Chief Instructor for Enshin Karate International.
